Top Catches This Season

Tampa Bay is known for its year-round fishing, but some fish really shine during certain seasons. In the warmer months, you might find yourself battling a high-flying tarpon – trust me, that's a rush you won't forget! Snook are always a favorite, hiding out near structure and ready to ambush your bait. And let's not forget about the redfish – these copper-colored beauties put up a great fight and are a blast to catch. Depending on the time of year, we might also run into some trout, flounder, or even the occasional cobia. The bay is full of surprises, and that's what keeps anglers coming back for more.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

There's something special about fishing Tampa Bay that hooks people from the start. Maybe it's the thrill of watching a snook smash your topwater lure at sunrise. Or the satisfaction of perfectly placing a cast under a mangrove branch and feeling that telltale thump. Our regulars love the variety – one day you might be sight fishing for tailing reds in gin-clear water, the next you're working deep potholes for monster trout. And let's be honest, the bragging rights that come with landing a big tarpon don't hurt either! Plus, with the Tampa skyline as your backdrop, even a slow fishing day is still a great day on the water.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Snook: These hard-fighting predators are the rock stars of inshore fishing. Known for their distinctive black lateral line and protruding lower jaw, snook love to hang around structure like docks, mangroves, and bridge pilings. They're ambush feeders, so casting close to cover can result in explosive strikes. Spring and fall are prime times for snook, but they can be caught year-round in Tampa Bay. Anglers love them for their acrobatic jumps and the challenge they present – landing a big snook is always a memorable experience.

Tarpon: Often called the "Silver King," tarpon are the heavyweight champions of inshore fishing. These prehistoric-looking fish can grow over 6 feet long and weigh well over 100 pounds. They're famous for their gill-rattling jumps and blistering runs that can strip hundreds of yards of line in seconds. Tarpon migrate through Tampa Bay, with peak season typically from late spring through summer. Hooking one of these giants on light tackle is an adrenaline rush like no other – it's a true bucket-list fish for many anglers.

Redfish: Also known as red drum, these copper-colored bruisers are a staple of Tampa Bay fishing. They're known for their distinctive black spot near the tail, which can sometimes be multiple spots on larger fish. Redfish are bottom feeders that love to root around in shallow water, often revealing their location with their tails sticking out of the water – a sight that gets any angler's heart racing. They put up a stubborn fight, with powerful runs and head shakes. Reds can be caught year-round, but fall is particularly good when schools of oversized bull reds move into the bay.

Time to Book Your Spot

Whether you're looking to bend a rod with the family, impress some clients, or just escape the grind for a morning, we've got you covered. Remember, we provide all the gear, but the fish stories are up to you. Spots fill up fast, especially during peak seasons, so don't wait to lock in your date. Redfish

Redfish are a Tampa Bay staple, with their coppery color and trademark black spot near the tail. Most run 18-27 inches in our waters, but bulls over 40 inches aren't unheard of. You'll find them tailing in shallow grass flats or prowling mangrove shorelines, often in just a foot or two of water. Fall is prime time as reds school up to spawn, but you can catch them year-round. Anglers love redfish for their bulldog fighting style and excellent table fare. They'll readily take artificial lures, but live bait like shrimp or pinfish is hard to beat. One local trick: on super shallow flats, look for their backs and tails breaking the surface as they root for crabs. A well-placed cast in front of a cruising red often triggers an instant strike.

Redfish

Snook

Snook are one of Tampa Bay's most sought-after gamefish. These sleek predators usually range from 20-30 inches, with a distinctive black lateral line and protruding lower jaw. You'll find them lurking around mangroves, docks, and other structure in shallow inshore waters. Spring and fall are prime seasons as snook move between their summer spawning areas and winter haunts. Anglers love snook for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights - they'll leap clear out of the water trying to throw the hook. Their firm white meat is also excellent eating when in season. To boost your chances, try working a soft plastic jerk bait or live bait like pinfish along mangrove shorelines during moving tides. Just be ready for that sudden, powerful hit when a snook ambushes your offering.

Snook

Tarpon

Tarpon are the silver kings of Tampa Bay. These prehistoric-looking monsters can top 6 feet and 150 pounds, with armor-like scales and a massive underslung jaw. You'll find them rolling and gulping air in deeper channels and passes, especially from late spring through summer as they migrate along the coast. Tarpon are prized for their spectacular aerial displays - expect multiple jumps and gill-rattling head shakes when you hook up. It's purely catch-and-release, but the thrill of battling these giants keeps anglers coming back. For your best shot, we'll look for schools of fish early in the morning. Drifting live bait like crabs or pinfish often does the trick. Just remember to bow to the king when it jumps to keep tension off the line.
